Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much?

Im thinking of starting my own fitness club made for low income people, have second hand cardio machines and weights, that way low income people will have the chance also, make it maybe 6 or 8 bucks a month. what do you think? Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much? You'll never know until you try. I would calculate expenses and the potential revenue to see if you can cover costs and/or make a profit.

Some people don't think $30 a month is too much. Some, in Hollywood, don't think $500 a month is too much. It just depends on your market. Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much?
You will go broke.

By the time you cover your staff wages, rent, bills, insurance (this is an expensive one for a fitness clubs) Equipment maintenance and other miscellaneous expenses you will be running a massive deficit

You may want to do a cost breakdown and figure out how many members you will need to turn a profit if you are only charging 8/month and figure out if this is a viable business plan.

i have been very intrested in examining a pay as you go business model for a gym, this way you are not tied into a contract yet can pay a nominal fee each time you want to uset he equiptment. Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much?Do you have any idea what employees, equipment, rent, insurance, advertising, utilities, etc cost?

$6 to 8 bucks a month. It would have to be in the middle of an empty field and have just a rope for tug of war.

You are talking about thousands of dollars a month in minimum costs. Let's assume $2000 per month minimum costs (way low), you would need 250 members just to cover the cost. Oh, you want to earn money for your own living expense, you better charge more.
I think that's a great idea. Best of luck to ya. The reason those big clubs charge so much is that not only is it a gym, it's a meat market. I must admit, I sometimes go to excel to scope out all the Hot Hot women, and to exercise too.Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much?I dont think is goign to work, here are the reasons why

1.) Most of the low income family does not care about fitness

2.) They won't spend money on fitness

3.) No one would pay 10bucks to workout in a gym thats "getto", remember 24hoursfitness/ballys avg about 25 bucks a month.

4.) Most of the people from low income family are hard worker that works a lot of hours, so they wont have time to work out.

Your best bet is start doing private personnal trainings, and start setting up your fitness network. Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much?
There's definitely a need for it... Can you swing it with overhead costs, though? Machines need maintaining, you have to be insured in the event of a client's injury, you'll need a good cooling system for the gym, etc...

Good luck!
go for it ..Why do fitness clubs like Ballys or 24 fitness charge so much?
These others charge what they do because they can.

I think yours is an interesting idea. Obesity is an epidemic in North America. I think you should promote your facility on that basis. But can you offer this for such low amounts without going broke?

I suggest that you develop a business plan, pick an area where people aren't healthy and contact foundations to see if they would fund this as pilot project that you could eventually spin out to poorer communities across America. You might have to develop it as a non-profit organization, which you would head, but it's a very interesting idea. Good for you.
