How much time would you say you have to invest to be in a fitness show?

I have had people ask me about modeling before. And just recently had some one make me an offer to help me put together a portfolio and possible get into fitness shows. I probably do not have the kinda time I need. But was curious if any one else had been involved in either modeling or fitness shows and could tell me their experience on the time investment. I am already in very good shape but sure I need work. How much time would you say you have to invest to be in a fitness show?I worked as a personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder. First, I would say go to a fitness show and decide if it is something you would enjoy. Check out npconline.com, theocbwebsite.com, or bodybuilding.com for a show in your area. Find a reputable, certified trainer (NSPA, ACE, ACSM,). Overall, it takes about 3-4 months to train for a figure show and fitness depends on how quickly you can put a routine together. Its 12-16 weeks of strict dieting and 1-2 hours in the gym six days a week.

As far as modeling, from experience, I can tell you there is no shortage of photographers at a competition trying to get girls to do a photo shoot with them. Call me a cynic, but I am always skeptical. If you shoot with a photographer, make sure you know exactly what the pics will be used for, get it in writing, and never do nudity (major fitness brands will not shoot with a model with nude pics online). Alot of competitions award a reputable modeling contract to the winners. I would focus on competing and when you decide to model, find a reputable agent who is clear on you wants and expectations. Never pay money to an agent until you get work. Never pay a photographer unless you have absolute control of the pics (he can never publish without your permission). I guess my advice, if this is something you want to do, focus on competition, don't plan on a professional career, and let the modeling opportunities come as you build a reputation in the competition circuit. Good luck. How much time would you say you have to invest to be in a fitness show?If you have a professional helping you then the earliest you could be ready would be 3-4 months. Most women need to gain more muscle to successfully compete in shows. This would be a good program for you to gain muscle http://www.athleticmusclebuilding.com

It's geared towards guys, but don't be scared because you need some muscle for these shows. How much time would you say you have to invest to be in a fitness show?Well must models just starve themselves silly.
