How come Hollywood, CA is getting all the credit for being the entertainment capital?

Shouldn't Burbank get all the credit? After all, that's where all the major studios are.How come Hollywood, CA is getting all the credit for being the entertainment capital? You have to understand that "Hollywood" is a name generally given to the film industry in Southern California, not simply the town. The first filmmakers who arrived in L.A. set up their small studios in Hollywood, but even then they filmed all over the L.A. basin.

Rodeo Drive is in Beverly Hills. Universal Studios Hollywood is in Universal City. MGM's Studio (now Sony) is in Culver City. Warner Bros is in Burbank. Paramount is in Hollywood proper. Filming takes place every day throughout L.A./O.C., from the ocean to the Valley. It is all as much a part of "Hollywood" as the town itself (which is actually isn't a city - it's a section of Los Angeles).

But everything has to have a center, a heart. And for Hollywood, that's now at Hollywood %26amp; Highland, where you'll find tourists comparing their shoe size to the footprints in cement at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, looking at the stars in the Walk of Fame sidewalk, and where the Oscars are given away at the Kodak Theatre.

It just fits. Everyone in California is always wrong about everything and this is no exception. How come Hollywood, CA is getting all the credit for being the entertainment capital? All the studios USED to be in Hollywood. Keep in mind that many of the smaller studios folded or were bought out by other studios. And MANY MANY sound stages and production companies are in Hollywood. What most people in Pismo (and other places) don't realize is that Hollywood is an industrial town. It's just that the industry is entertainment.

Sure, Disney and Warner are in Burbank. But Universal is still part of LA, and NBC is now located there. CBS is in Studio City, ABC is in Glendale, Paramount is in Hollywood, and Sony/MGM is in Culver City. But the majority of production is done in Hollywood. Tradition also dies hard. The studios grew up in Hollywood about 100 years ago, and that's hard to fight. Besides, it sounds so much better to hear, "You're going to Hollywood!" than "You're going to Burbank!"

Just so you know.

Note to Ben (Yeah, I get it): How come you're such a California hater? Did someone from California take your milk money as a kid?
I've read that in the Golden Age of Hollywood, the major studios were based in Hollywood. This was back in the 20's and 30's, and has changed over time.

Studios just aren't used like they used to and that has factored in. In the early days almost everything was shot on a sound stage, rarely was anything shot "on location."How come Hollywood, CA is getting all the credit for being the entertainment capital? It's all a part of the hype. "Hollywood" just somehow sounds more glamorous than "Burbank."How come Hollywood, CA is getting all the credit for being the entertainment capital?
You are probably not old enough to remember legendary Tonight Show Host Johnny Carson constantly saying, "Beautiful downtown Burbank"... tongue in cheek of course.
hollysood has some studios too it originally started in hollywood i believe not to mention the entire city's revenue revolves off of entertainment. (ex: museums, clubs, bars, theatres, hotels for tourists) that's whyHow come Hollywood, CA is getting all the credit for being the entertainment capital?
Many studios' facilities are still in Hollywood or nearby. Studios bought/merged with other studios, and land was cheaper/more available right outside of Hollywood for their big corporate headquarters full of suits, so studio headquarters moved. But many are right on the border of Hollywood: Universal, DreamWorks and Warner Bros are across the street, NBC, CW, Disney and ABC are right across the freeway, or very close.

In addition to the studios OM mentioned, these are in Hollywood or nearby: CBS is at Beverly %26amp; 3rd, Disney/ABC on Prospect is still in use (some depts moved to other Disney locations in Glendale, Burbank and NoHo), Nickelodeon on Sunset, Coral St. that runs around part of Universal is in Hollywood, Warner Bros in Burbank is literally across the street from Hollywood, and they film Big Bang Theory, etc on the Hollywood side of the street, Gate 8, Jim Henson Prod, etc. Lots of TV shows are filmed in Hollywood, some locations: Hollywood Center Studios (Disney shows), Sunset Gower + Sunset Bronson Studios (used to be Columbia), The Lot in WeHo (used to be Warners), Raleigh Studios, RenMar/Red Studios.

Lots still going on in Hollywood, especially filming.
