Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man?

Ronald Reagan never got anywhere near the war (claiming eyesight difficulties to avoid deployment in World War II), and he spent his life as a Hollywood actor, not a rancher, yet to this day, conservatives swoon over his masculine role-playing as though he is some sort of super-brave military hero. Meanwhile, Jimmy Carter, who actually graduated the Naval Academy and was assigned to real live nuclear submarines, is mocked as a weak and sniveling coward who should not have a ship named after him. Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man?I voted for Carter in '80, but while he was president, the US looked weak to the world. Reagan came in and made the world understand the US was back in the game and no one was going to mess with us unless they wanted to get hit back.

Under Carter, we had the "misery index," Reagan gave the country some pride back.Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man?
Ronald Wilson Reagan was the first President to have an undergraduate degree in economics. He was also the first President who had headed up a labor union (the Screen Actors Guild). During World War Two he served in a unit which made training films. He didn't claim eye sight difficulties. He did have them. One of the Sergeants who served with him went on to be elected to the Senate from California: George Murphy.

I served under seven Commanders-In-Chief, including Ronald Wilson Reagan and James Earl Carter, Jr. Reagan got a carrier named after him because of his contributions to the Navy during his time in office. Carter had no contributions to the Navy during his term in office. Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man? What's your definition of a real man? Both men stood up for their beliefs BUT Reagan did not sell out the country. It's obvious the way you want the answers to go but I still have a hard time with Carter giving amnesty to those cowards that were afraid to serve in the Military. Now thirty years later, Carter is as anti-American as anyone can be.

Yeah, Carter graduated from the Naval Academy and served aboard subs and I respect him for that but that does not automatically excuse all that he has done since then.
Both were real men, Reagan was rejected by the military he didn't get out of anything. Carter served our country in the Navy, but as President he forgot what country he was President of and now is considered the worst President in our history. And Ron seeing you don't like him is considered one of our best, that's history for ya.Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man?Because the winners are remembered. Not the losers. I supported Carter, but he lost. And history "vindicated" him as a "weak sniveling coward." Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man?
Cause Americans care more about created narratives than facts. Creating and maintaining an image is more important than actual experience. By the way, both were good men. Good presidents? That's another debate.
They both served their country in the military with honor!

What's the problem?!Carter was a Christian Naval Officer and Reagan was an Hollywood Actor, which one is a real man?
It sure would be nice if people would do some research before asking such stupid questions.

Ronald Reagan was born in 1911. At age 26, in 1937 he enlisted in the Army Reserves. It was the same year he got a seven year acting contract with Warner Brothers. He was promoted to second lieutenant later the same year. He was called up to active duty in 1942.

Now as to your dumb comment that he claimed eyesight problems to avoid deployment....

In school he had to sit in the front of the class to see the blackboard. He kept getting hit in the head with balls and it was only when a nurse saw him that the diagnosis of nearsightedness was made when he was nine or ten.

He had such bad vision in college he had to play as a lineman as he could only see a yard in front of him, watching the guy on the other side immediately in his vision.

He wore contacts most of his life. When he gave a speech he would take one out so he could read the notes and with the other eye, he could still see the audience. He was often seen putting the contact in after the speech.

Since he was nearsighted, he was restricted from overseas duty. This was not a claim of his to avoid duty, it was and is a well documented medical problem.

Now as far as Jimmy Carter. He was born in 1924 and by the time of Pearl harbor he was 17 years old and could easily have enlisted. But instead he sat out the war going to the Naval Academy. He did not graduate until 1946. He then served on surface ships and diesel-electric subs.

He got a humanitarian discharge in 1953 after the death of his father.

The USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear submarine was launched in 1954.

So just what "real live nuclear submarines" do you think he served on?

So there you have it.

One guy who enlisted as the world was heating up and who actually served during WW II and another guy who ducked the entire war going to school. And when Carter could finally use his Navy paid education to serve on a nuclear sub, he instead decided to duck out again and go raise peanuts.

Research is wonderful. You should try it.
