What Camcorder to record Hollywood Movies?

Hey I was wondering what camcorder should I purchase to record in HD at night in HD like those crazy zombie movies Hollywood makes? Please put links and prices if possible thank you. What Camcorder to record Hollywood Movies? Are you talking about infrared night vision shots that are kinda greenish looking? Sony makes a few camcorders with a night vision mode. The Sony DCR-TRV17 and the Sony DCR-SR85 are just a couple. I added a link that shows a Sima SL-20IR external infrared light that you use with camcorders. Those light only cost around $40.What Camcorder to record Hollywood Movies?"movies like Hollywood makes"?

Panavision, CineAlta, Arri, among a few others. Many continue to use film, not camcorder/video. You will need a complete audio capture environment because these cameras have no audio capture or storage capability. Around $100,000. Lenses are extra and can be more than the camera.

Or you can check the digital cameras being used for some of the lower budget movies... Silicon Imaging and Red (One or Scarlet). Their audio is usually not used - so again, you will need a complete audio capture environment... The low end includes a portable DigiDesign ProTools "studio" system. Around $8,000 - to $40,000 depending on the options and lenses you get. You will also need a high-end workstation to do the editing. A consumer-grade home computer won't cut it.

Next down the food chain would be the Sony XDCAM series. Then the HDCAM series. Around $8,000 - to $40,000 depending on the options and lenses you get. These might be used for documentary (like behind the scenes stuff) purposes - not feature length movies. Maybe shorts...

Anything below this would not normally be used for a feature length "movie", but next down the food chain comes the

Canon XLH series and Panasonic DVCPRO HD series. Around $8,000 to $20,000.

Next down the food chain and breaking through the sub-$7,000 level are the

Sony HVR-Z7, HVR-Z5, and HDR-FX1000

Panasonic AG-HVX200

Canon XHA1

JVC-GY-HM100...

And anything below these will not have lenses or imaging chips large enough to provide decent low-light behavior. Even the last set will be pushing the envelope.

Don't forget to budget for tripods, camera crane, other steadying devices - like a vest system from Steadicam or Glidecam, dolly/track system, mics (shotgun, wireless clip-on, stereo, etc.) and all the other audio gear (booms, cables, mixer, field recorder, shock mounts, fuzzy wind screens, etc.) and good sturdy cases for everything to protect the investment... It is easy to spend more on this "accessory" stuff than the camcorder cost. The camcorder is only part of the "system" that makes it all work. This is a decent start, but there is LOTS more...

Good luck! What Camcorder to record Hollywood Movies?Wow Little Dog....you forgot to add a big van to carry all that stuff in. Another $25,000?
