What Susan probebly did was probebly part of her education, either as school plays/productions or as a project to built up her contact network or portfolio.
A lot off people do get into schools with qualified drama programes, that do a lot off high quality productions, and while actors are the most visible part they need students and other people from the entire range off theathre (mostly) buisness, and thats includes directors and producers. So Id guess thoose kind off productions are great training rides for thoose categorys off profesionals.
