How can Hollywood use real military vehicles/aircraft/navalships in their movies?

I heard once that military units (vehicles/aircraft/navalships) used in Hollywood movies are real. Seeing the movies, I think that's true. Now, how can they borrow it? How much they pay to "borrow" those "things"? And how long they can borrow those things, because development of a movie could take a long time with indefinite schedule?

Btw, I don't know where to put this question. But I think this is the best category to put my question. How can Hollywood use real military vehicles/aircraft/navalships in their movies? Most of the time they dont "let" the company's borrow anything. They have the soldiers accompany the equipment, they get filmed and they go back to post. But you figure most of the time its not real anyway. I mean with all the video technology these days you can pretty much create anything you wanted to for half of the cost of whgat it would have cost in real life. Look at the movie, True Lies, they really did not have a Harrier out there its all props and special effects. How can Hollywood use real military vehicles/aircraft/navalships in their movies?Seems piston556 is antimilitary

It's best not to use the Army's equipment, the Department of Defense usually will demand your movie show the armed forces in a flawless light. If the film maker doesn't comply, he gets no access to Army equipment.
